While I have nothing but the utmost respect for Jon Stewart and what he and his writing staff do for this country, I didn't start actively watching "The Daily Show" until 2003 (somewhat understandable, given that I was twelve at the time). As such, this is the very first time in my life that I have seen this clip.Oh, I've known of its existence for quite a while now. Both the "Crowning Moment of Heartwarming" and "Crowning Moment of Awesome" pages for the program on TV Tropes list it as their very first entries, and I've never had any doubt that it would be of the absolutely most impeccable quality. But every time I thought to check it out, I just...stopped. I'm not entirely sure why; it's a powerful and intensely emotional subject, to be sure, but I have no particular personal connection to that day's events. Maybe I just didn't want to think about it to this degree on a day I did not have to.But regardless, I resolved to finally watch it on the anniversary, which here started just over four hours ago. Coming up to this day, I was somewhat worried that I might lose my nerve or, worse, actually forget altogether (I'm ashamed to say that this might've been a distinct possibility, given the sheer amount of studying I'm currently embroiled in). Thank you very much for confronting me with the clip directly and forestalling those difficulties, even if you were unaware that you were doing so.And as for the clip itself? What else needs to be said? It's perfection.
