Just For the Record.

In any work of art, there’s a power dynamic between the creators and the audience. The writers control what the audience sees, and when. Some are very pornographic: showing the audience what they want to see whenever they want to see it. Some make us work a little more. My favorite creators tend to be sadistic, controlling bastards.

  1. Wow....true...this whole statement sounds like something quentin tarentino would say. Props greg

  2. Some creators get a little TOO sadistic and controlling, to be honest. Joss Whedon is a prime example of this, in my opinion.

    1. I love Joss's work. Sorry. That's how I prefer my fiction.

  3. ^ Didn't say I didn't love Joss' work. I loved the first five seasons of "Buffy", "The Avengers", and whatnot. I just meant that he tends to get a little too into being...well, him. To the point of selling out as a creator even, as was the case in Buffy's last two seasons and the ongoing comic.

    1. That doesn't have much to do with my post. From what I understand, his involvement in the last two seasons of Buffy was much smaller than in the first five. Firefly and Angel were getting his attention. Marti Noxon was given the reigns of Buffy.

Never read the comic, but I hear his involvement there was minuscule.

  4. ^ His minimal involvement does explain alot, but to me it's selling out all the same. His dedication to "Firefly" kind of makes up for it, I suppose.

    1. You try producing three TV shows at once.

  5. ^ If I did, only one would probably turn out better than the others. For Joss, would you say that one was "Firefly"?

    1. It did turn out better, but seasons six and seven of Buffy were still pretty good. But name one long running TV show that doesn't end up being compared to itself.

  6. ^ Your opinion. I didn't find seasons six and seven of Buffy to be good AT ALL. Especially the former: magic junkie Willow, Anya and Xander's stupid plot, three lame archvillains, Buffy/Spike...at least season seven had Nathan Fillion!

I dunno. Can YOU name long running TV shows that, in your opinion, did not Jump The Shark at any point?

Cheers and Frasier come to mind.
